What is ChatGPT
ChatGPT is a globally popular conversational AI chatbot launched by OpenAI. This AI chat tool is built on OpenAI’s GPT-4 language model, and it can perform various natural language processing (NLP) tasks, such as summarization, classification, question-and-answer sessions, and human-like error corrections. ChatGPT is a revolutionary technology that enhances work efficiency to a new level, making people's lives easier.。
Who Developed ChatGPT
The ChatGPT AI chatbot was developed and is owned by OpenAI. Elon Musk and Sam Altman founded OpenAI in 2015 as a nonprofit organization. In 2018, Musk exited OpenAI and no longer held any shares in the company. Initially, OpenAI received $1 billion in funding from Silicon Valley venture capitalists to kickstart the construction of neural networks.
In 2019, OpenAI raised a second round of funding of $1 billion from Microsoft. They began using Azure supercomputers to build these large language models. Fast forward to 2023, Microsoft invested $10 billion into OpenAI, bringing its total stake to 49%. Other investors, including Khosla Ventures, collectively hold another 49%, leaving OpenAI with only 2% of the equity.
How Does ChatGPT Work
Before ChatGPT, AI chatbots already existed, but they were not conversational in nature and thus did not gain widespread attention. In 2017, Google introduced a neural network architecture called The Transformer in their paper “Attention is All You Need,” marking a paradigm shift in training large language models (LLMs).
Compared to other neural networks like Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Long Short-Term Memory networks (LSTMs), the Transformer network proved superior. RNNs face issues with long-term dependencies, while LSTMs struggle to focus on the correct words in long sentences to produce accurate outputs.
The Transformer network revolutionized language model training. Unlike RNNs, which process one word at a time, Transformers can ingest the entire input simultaneously. Furthermore, Transformers allow parallel processing of multiple inputs, reducing computational costs and accelerating training speeds.
Recognizing the potential of Transformers, OpenAI decided to leverage this architecture for training its models. The training process for these models primarily involves three steps: 1.Generative pre-training 2.Supervised fine-tuning 3.Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF)
How to Use ChatGPT
ChatGPT has a basic version that is free to use. To use ChatGPT, simply visit its official website: https://chat.openai.com/chat. No downloads are necessary—just go to the ChatGPT page and log in. You can register using your email or log in with your Google or Microsoft account.
The ChatGPT web interface is user-friendly for everyone. The display includes a text box where users can input their queries and an area that shows the results. Once you type in your text prompt, ChatGPT will respond with the appropriate output.
